Written Summary:

This is one video that I personally have wanted to see for some time now and when I found out that Mr. Paulson had sent MAVR the Killer Leg Lock tapes I jumped at the chance to be able to review them. After watching the video’s I can honestly say that I was in no way disappointed with these tapes. To put it another way Erik Paulson has the best set of video’s available on Leg Locks that this reviewer has seen. There is so much excellent material on these two tapes. When I first watched Killer Leg Locks 1 I tried to count the number of moves on the video. Hey, it’s 45 minutes long, so how many techniques could there be? Well after a short while I gave up even trying to keep count. There are so many variations to each of the moves that it was very difficult to keep track. This is a fast paced video (with little to no wasted time) which is suited towards all audiences although a knowledge of the basics would certainly help. Some viewers will defiently need to make use of the rewind button for this video. This video doesn’t just show a single leg lock but contains many many varations of a single technique and how to flow from one lock to another. Mr. Paulson also shows a number of setups into these moves. This was nice to see as if you don’t know how to set the move up it won’t work in the real world. Mr. Paulson takes things a step further and shows counters to many of the moves. I’m thinking this is great! But wait there’s more as often the counter to the counter is shown. Good job Mr. Paulson! The only minor criticism that I have with the tape is the Production quality. It is not top notch Production quality such as World Martial Arts or Roy Harris’s video’s but overall the quality is still very good. There is some background noise at various times throughout the video and sometimes the sound is not quite up to par. With that said these are minor details and all in all the video is very viewable and you can still hear all of the details that are explained.

Here is some of what you will find on this video:

1) Correct positioning of the hands while applying locks on the ankle

2) Heel hook and toe hold variations

3) Heel hook and when your opponent rolls transaiton into a leg bar.

4) Leg locks while standing and your opponent is on the ground. Various locks are shown.

5) From inside the guard flow into an achilles lock, heel hook, knee bar, figure four or reverse figure four. Mr. Paulson explains the importance of controlling the person’s hips and how to guard from punches and kicks from within the guard.

6) Double leg when you fall to your side or back into various locks.

7) Kesagatame (headlock position) into knee bar or defense when a person tries to hook your leg with theirs. I tried this one at class the same night I saw it on the video and it worked great. It surprised a few people.

8) Crossbody to figure four to knee bar. Nice combination.

9) Knee on stomach to neck crank to knee bar. Knee on stomach from bottom to various locks.

10) When your grounded and your opponent is standing into a kneebar.

11) Triangle choke to knee bar.

12) Counter to sweep into a heel hook. This one was one of my favourites.

13) Various counter and counter to the counter when your standing and person sweeps you back.

Interesting series of locks.

At the end of the video there is an Interview with Mr. Paulson. During the interview they show a video clip of Erik pounding away on his opponent. The interviewer asks Erik what he is thinking during that time and Erik’s reply is bluntly "death, kill". I’m thinking, what? I can’t believe he is saying that! Erik then goes on to say that he is kidding, stating that he is really thinking that he can’t believe the guy isn’t giving up and that if he wasn’t doing it to his opponent then his opponent would be doing it to him.

If your interested in leg locks this is a must have!
