Written Summary:

This is a self defense video for women. It's shows how women can use various techniques, basic to most martial artists, to protect themselves and ward off attackers. It was apparent while watching the video that Mr. Glass didn't just throw this stuff together. The format he uses, and the order everything is done in, was well thought out. And not until the end of the video did I really appreciate that until he explains why he did so. That's not the only thing that impressed me about Glass' video. Instead of a video that showed all techniques, or was all concept oriented, Glass combined the two, and quite well I might add. The way he interspersed the two throughout the tape reminded me of the James, Quinn, Vunak and Blauer production styles. You're shown some techniques, your given some explanation about them, and along the way you every now and then get some really good advice that ties everything together and makes it priceless. I don't know about the rest of you, but I like those kind of videos. They help insure that most any person can comprehend what's going on. Too many people leave out the "whys", which I think are a key component to making people catch on, and really benefit from certain tapes. Add Mr. Glass to the list of names from above, he certainly knows how to do this. Not bad for his first outing (tape)!

My only question is: "What's next? You're first tape showed a lot of promise, don't stop there! And when you do another tape, be sure you use the same kind of format. Only one small criticism, if you could, maybe try speeding up some parts here and there. The content was a little slow for my taste, but that's easy to fix. You understand the key components for making a GREAT tape, which is a major component others miss."

The tape itself is fairly simple from a technique perspective. The beauty lies in it's arrangement and explanation, which could help any female unfamiliar with the martial arts, quickly learn and comprehend some street effective self defense. Glass may only be a first degree in TKD, but he's already a MASTER in tape production. Heck, if he doesn't do anymore tapes, some of you companies really ought to think about looking him up to help you produce some of your own material. He's that good!

OK, so what's on the tape?

Mr. Glass shows about 13 different techniques/defenses a woman should know, and again, the beauty of this tape is the arrangement of the techniques and concepts shown, done in a very specific order, that won't really make sense until you hear his explanation at the end of the tape. He shows how to handle/or use:

1. Rear choke - use over the shoulder throw
2. Cupping victims mouth and grabbing their stomach, from rear - shoulder throw
3. Single arm grab - break at weak link
4. Double arm grab - a couple shown
5. Double hand grab (attacker grabs one arm with both hands) - reinforced break
6. Forward Attack - Punch to the Adams Apple
7. Anytime - Keys
8. Anytime - Kubotan
9. Anytime - Pepper Spray
10. Anytime - Triple Ball Key Chain
11. Person on top of you - Eye Gouge/2 fingers
12. Person on top - Eye Gouge/2 fingers, 2 eyes
13. Person on top - Eye Gouge/2 thumbs, 2 eyes

Clearly Mr. Glass left out alot of other common grabs and self defense scenarios that a female might encounter. This somewhat concerned me because there is plenty of material left out to warrant the production of "It's Your Right # 2". Hair grabs weren't covered, neither were bear hugs from the front and back, the side choke, front push, tackle, along with some other things. Also missing were common defenses such as: knee to the groin, foot stomp w/ high heel shoes, shin kick, bopping ones ears via a single or double slap, hammerfist, use of ones elbow, and a couple of common escapes when one is mounted. For that reason I didn't grade this tape as high as I would've, had it covered these. I felt these were very important topics that should've been covered in this type of tape. Add these mixing pieces, to the tape moving slow in places, and I felt there would've definitely been room, if done right, to cover almost twice the amount of information. Although Mr. Glass' production skills were quite good, I think he and others forget that one of the reasons for buying a tape is so that if something goes by fairly quick, we can rewind it and watch it again. The slow pace of the tape, and the lack of some scenarios and techniques, cost him some points. But still, as said before, this guy knows how to put a tape together and it was a good one.
