Written Summary:

This is an interesting tape by Mr. Luke Boozer who has combined a variety of useful fighting techniques into an overall fighting system that he calls "The Ultimate Self Defense ". While the word "ultimate" may be a reach, it is still a good synthesis of fighting moves and techniques. Mr. Boozer gives the viewer the best " bang for the buck " of most any martial arts video I have seen. This video is loaded with information and it is over 2 ½ hours long, much, much longer than the typical martial arts video costing twice the money.

Mr. Boozer takes the viewer through stand up fighting techniques and moves through the kicking, punching, close quarter and finally groundfighting range. Mr. Boozer states that he has tried to limit his system to techniques that are simple and effective. For this reason, he has elected to discard many techniques that some martial artists hold very dear such as spinning kicks, high kicks, backfists, and quite a few others. But the ones that he has elected to keep in his system are very simple and very effective, which is what a person should want in a functional fighting system.

Mr. Boozer does a lot of groundfighting on this tape and has some very clever moves. While most experienced grapplers will have seen most of these moves, it is a good review for even them.

I believe this tape is best geared for new and intermediate martial artists who probably have not seen a lot of the material on this tape. Most martial artists who have studied in reality combat systems will have already seen a great deal of this material but that said, this tape would still be an excellent review of the fundamentals for these more advanced students.

My major criticism is that the production is " home video "quality but considering the price and the volume of material, I think that is a minor criticism to say the least. If you want Warner Brothers, you can always go to the movies. And you won't get as much fighting information there as you do on this tape. There is no fluff on this video as Mr. Boozer goes quickly from one move to the next but still manages to explain most of the fine points of each technique. This tape is certainly worth a look by any but the most experienced martial artists, and they too can benefit from a fine review of techniques and fundamentals.
