Written Summary:
It is not often that
we are treated to tape that features such a thorough look at the empty hand aspects
of the Filipino martial arts. Mr. Grody really shines on this particular volume as
he moves through some potentially devastating low line kicking moves ( along with
some pretty nifty footwork ) in the first section of the tape. Expanding on some
of the material in the first volume of this series, Mr. Grody moves on to the subject
of double guntings ( entries with at least two limb destructions ). Watching some
of these strikes to the opponent's limbs made me wince a few times and also reinforced
in me a healthy respect for any opponent skilled in the art of Kali. The majority
of the tape deals with the use of the elbow in Filipino empty hand fighting. There
are many, many moves featuring the elbow on this tape and Mr. Grody does an excellent
job of organizing and presenting the material.
The moves on this tape were
shown mostly in slow motion but Mr. Grody does present a few of them at realistic
combat speed. This helps the viewer to better appreciate the destructive power of
these moves. With practice, some of these techniques could be devastating for your
opponent in a street situation without having to resort to lethal force. The more
I see of Mr. Grody, the more I appreciate his skill in the Filipino arts.
This
tape is for just about anyone who is interested in learning more about the empty
hand aspects of the Filipino martial arts. The material here could also be used as
street effective material IF the proper amount of training time is invested.
