Written Summary:
This video, taught
by Tim Mousel of Houston's Mousel's Self Defense Academy, is a review for all the
rank requirements for Level 2 at Mr. Mousel's school. The material for Level 2 is
obviously geared for the less experienced martial artist but there is good review
material here for the advanced martial artist as well. This tape cover some basic
footwork, basic boxing punches, rudimentary hand trapping, five sensitivity drills,
knife tapping, locking, Thai boxing basics and a very interesting section on grappling.
The grappling is taught by an instructor who is certified to teach Jeet Kune Do Grappling
by Mr. Larry Hartsell. There may actually be a few moves on here that many people
haven't seen. There were certainly some I hadn't.
This tape is very well produced
and easy to watch. Mr. Mousel does a good job of explaining what is going on in each
section. This is a good video tape for an intermediate to beginning student and would
still be a good basic review for any advanced student as well. Since this is basically
a rank requirement tape, it leaves a lot to be desired as far as a learning tool.
Not a bad tape however, but I would think it is aimed at a very specific audience,
namely Mr. Mousel’s beginning students.
