Written Summary:
This is the second
video in the Street Safe 2 series and deals exclusively with weapons training. Mr.
Vunak believes that weapons training is an important skill to be mastered if one
is to become a proficient street fighter. Correct training with weapons allows the
individual to master the concepts of the weapon rather than the weapon itself. Mr.
Vunak makes this very clear when he discusses the similarities between various long
weapons, short weapons, and flexible weapons (chains, nunchaku's).
Mr. Vunak's
training in the filipino martial arts is very apparent on this video as he introduces
the filipino concept of "defanging the snake" (which means to attack the
hand that is holding the weapon when you are being attacked). Mr. Vunak makes some
good points when he discusses the pointlessness of attempting to block a weapon attack
and when he touches on the correct use of mental training for street fighting. There
are several good drills shown that help train the viewer in the use of stick and
knives.
This video, like the others in the Street Safe series, is very
good and well worth a look by nearly all martial artists. If you have an interest
in weapons and their street applications, then tis video is definitely for you.
